San Clemente Dam Removal & Carmel River Reroute Project – Carmel Valley, Ca

Ground Up provided Lead Inspector and Assistant Resident Project Representative services on this 84 million dollar dam removal project for the second season of work which consisted of the emptying of the dam, trapping and removal of all endangered and other species of fish within the dam and animal life affected by the work, installation of the Carmel River Bypass Pipe, excavation and blasting of the Reroute Cut, excavation and construction of the Diversion Dike (earthen dam), excavation of the Combined Reach Flow Channel, Sediment Stockpile, construction of a 100’ bridge and excavation of the Stabilized Sediment Slope.  All told the project construction will include the excavation of approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of material and the placement of approximately 600,000 cubic yards of materials into the structural elements.  Public Agencies involved with the project include the owner Cal American Water, State of California Department of Water Recourses, Department of Safety of Dams, Nature Conservancy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service, State Regional Water Control Board, California Fish and Game, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.  The project has a number of participating funding sources including State and Federal agencies.  For more overall project information please visit the project website at .
